 WORKSHOPS AND PRESENTATIONS:

**I've visited schools in the U.S., Brazil, Italy, Panama, Scotland, and Singapore!**

School Visits:
Full day visit consists of 3 presentations (any group size, whatever format desired—hands-on writing workshop, class group discussions, assembly style lecture and Q&A, etc.) plus other events on the same day, such as lunch with the author, book signing, book club visit, etc.
Cost: $2,000 plus travel & accommodation, unless local (within 20 miles of Charlottesville, VA). For a multi-day visit at the same school, subsequent daily fees are substantially reduced.

I also do multi-day visits and have done up to two-week long writing workshops with students.
Note: I only do half-day visits locally (within 20 miles of Charlottesville, VA).
Cost: $1,000.

Speeches / Presentations:
Local (within 20 miles of Charlottesville, VA):
One lecture/speech/workshop
Cost: $750
Full day lecture/speech/workshop (includes evening event, if desired)
Cost: $2,000

Outside Charlottesville, VA:
One lecture/speech/workshop
Cost: $750 - $1,750, depending on travel

Full day lecture/speech/workshop
Cost: $2,000 ($2,500 if evening event is added to full day)

Travel
Host covers plane / train fees.
If I decide to drive (usually only shorter distances), there is no mileage fee.

Accommodation
Host covers hotel or B&B for night before event, as well as during, and possibly after event, depending on timing and flights.

Note: Schools in the same area may coordinate visits so that I visit one school on Monday, for example, and another on Tuesday, allowing the schools to split travel and accommodation costs.

Note from Kathy about school visits:
On a day I'm visiting a school I always wake up smiling. It's a gift. A chance to connect with at least one child, hopefully many, whether it's about writing or reading or, more importantly, making them feel heard, cared for, and important. It's a job teachers, librarians and administrators do every single day, but for an author it's a special occasion. Here's an example:
As I was leaving a school, 7th grader saw me -- "Oh! It's you!" -- and ran over to shake my hand. "Thank you for coming and thank you for answering our questions." Wincing a little, he said, "I know not everyone was listening, but most of us were." He shook my hand again, saying, "Thank you for inspiring us."
Often it's me who receives the gift of feeling heard, cared for, and important. That's one of the many reasons we authors love school visits. Thank you.
